Kyle Richard Freeland is an American professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Colorado Rockies in Major League Baseball.

He was born on May 14, 1993.  After spending four years playing baseball for Evansville University, the Colorado Rockies selected him with the eighth overall choice in the first round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. Freeland’s parents, Don and Susan Freeland, brought him into the world on May 14, 1993, in Denver, Colorado.

Colin is his only sibling and is his older brother. As a young athlete, Freeland participated in a wide variety of sports, but the two in which he was most successful were golf and baseball.

He received his high school education from Thomas Jefferson in Denver, Colorado. In the 35th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft, Freeland was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies; however, he did not sign with the team and instead attended the University of Evansville.

Freeland made 14 starts as a freshman in 2012 and had a record of 4–5 with a 4.55 earned run average (ERA), 70 strikeouts in 91 innings, and a total of 91 innings pitched.

In 2013, as a sophomore, he once again started 14 games and finished with a record of 4-8 with a 4.34 earned run average and 84 strikeouts in 93+1/3 innings pitched.

After the season was over, he went on to play in the Cape Cod League with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. During that time, he had a 2.25 earned run average (ERA), 48 strikeouts, and was chosen as an all-star by the league.

He finished his junior year with a record of 10–2 along with a 1.90 earned run averages, 128 strikeouts, and 99 2/3 innings pitched.
