Brian Serven, a rookie catcher for the Colorado Rockies, will not start Friday’s game against the Minnesota Twins. Serven will start the game on the bench for the third straight game in favor of Elias Diaz.
In 61 at-bats over his first 20 major league games, Serven is hitting.295/.358/.492 with an.850 OPS, three home runs, nine RBI, and eight runs scored in just 61 at-bats for the Rockies while splitting time with Diaz at the plate.
He played college baseball for the Arizona State Sun Devils while he was a student at Arizona State University. He participated in the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Bourne Braves’ collegiate summer baseball season in 2014.
In his junior year in 2012, he led the Aztecs to the California Interscholastic Federation championship while attending Palm Desert High School.
At the 2016 MLB Draft, the Colorado Rockies were selected in the fifth round. On May 18, 2022, he played his first game for the Rockies.
On May 21, 2022, Serven played in his second game with the Rockies and, in a game against the New York Mets, he hit two home runs, becoming the first player in major league history to have his first two hits and two multiple-run home runs in the same game.
