American professional baseball infielder Ryan Patrick McMahon was born on December 14, 1994. He plays for the Colorado Rockies in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Baseball and football were two of McMahon’s sports while he was a student at Santa Ana’s Mater Dei High School. The 2013 Major League Baseball draft saw the Rockies pick him in the second round, with the 42nd overall pick.
McMahon made his professional baseball debut with the Grand Junction Rockies after signing with the Rockies and forgoing his plans to play college baseball at the University of Southern California. He played there for the entirety of 2013, batting.323/.402/.583 in 59 games with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs.
McMahon signed Hartford at the start of 2017. He began to play second and first base in addition to third base to increase his versatility. In June, he was given a promotion to the Albuquerque Isotopes. In July also, he participated in the All-Star Futures Game.
On August 11, 2017, the Rockies promoted McMahon to the major leagues, primarily to play first base. On August 18, he was sent back down, and in September, he was recalled once more.
He batted in 119 games for Hartford, Albuquerque, and Colorado, hitting 355/.403/.583 with 20 home runs and 88 RBIs in addition to 17 games for Colorado.
McMahon and the Rockies agreed to a six-year, $70 million contract deal on March 21, 2022. McMahon’s deal will be extended through 2027, with an opt-out provision after the fourth year if he finishes in the top five in the National League MVP vote in any of the first three years.
