In Winter Park, Florida, in the United States, he was born on August 9, 1996. In his hometown of birth, he grew up playing baseball. He participated in the baseball program at Lake Mary High School and played for the squad there. He hoped to play college baseball for the Florida State Seminoles at Florida State University after high school, but when the Colorado Rockies selected him in the 2015 MLB Draft, he decided to sign with them instead.

His professional baseball career got off to a strong start that year with the Pioneer League’s Rookie-level Grand Junction Rockies after signing with the Rockies for a $5.5 million signing bonus. In the 2016 campaign, the Rockies moved him up to the Low-A Asheville Tourists.
