Against the Cubs on May 23, he smashed his first career walk-off home run. Multiple times in 2016, the Cardinals optioned him to, and recalled him from, Memphis as his overall offensive performance declined.
In an 8-4 victory over the Cubs on his 25th birthday, Grichuk blasted his first career grand slam, interrupting their 11-game winning streak.
On August 19, he hit a game-winning RBI double in the 11th inning in a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Grichuk had a.240 batting average, 24 home runs, and 48 RBIs at the end of the 2016 season.
