Samuel Beauman Hilliard, an American professional baseball outfielder with the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball, was born on February 21, 1994.
In Mansfield, Texas, Hilliard attended Mansfield High School. Prior to going to Crowder College, he began playing baseball for Navarro College.
He was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 31st round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2014 out of Crowder, but he chose to enroll at Wichita State University instead of signing a contract.
In college, Hilliard played both outfield and pitcher. He signed with the Colorado Rockies after one season at Wichita State after being selected by them in the 15th round of the 2015 MLB draft.
With the Grand Junction Rockies, Hilliard made his professional debut. He then played for the Asheville Tourists in 2016, the Lancaster JetHawks in 2017, and the Hartford Yard Goats in 2018.
He participated in the Arizona Fall League following the 2018 season. After the 2018 season, the Rockies added him to their 40-man roster. With the Albuquerque Isotopes, he started the new year.
The Rockies promoted Hilliard to the major leagues on August 27, 2019.
That evening, he made his major league debut against the Boston Red Sox and blasted his first home run off Josh Smith.
Hilliard hit.210/.272/.438 with an ugly strikeout rate of 36.8% during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season before being optioned down to the Rockies’ secondary affiliate when the team acquired Kevin Pillar.
