Michael Papierski was born on February 26, 1996. He is a Major League Baseball catcher and first baseman for the Cincinnati Reds. He played baseball for the LSU Tigers in college.
During the ninth round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft, the Houston Astros picked Papierski. In May 2022, he joined the San Francisco Giants for his MLB debut.
Growing up in Lemont, Illinois, Papierski attended Lemont High School. He was chosen by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 16th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft, but he opted to enroll at LSU rather than sign with them.
Baseball was Papierski’s sport of choice at LSU for three seasons. For most of his rookie season, he served as Kade Scivicque’s backup at catcher. In 2015, he played summer baseball for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
The Houston Astros drafted Papierskin in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2017. After joining the team, he was reassigned to the Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York-Penn League.
The Astros traded Papierski to the San Francisco Giants on May 14, 2022, in exchange for Mauricio Dubón. On May 21, 2022, Papierski was added to the Giants’ major league roster. Later on the same day, he made his debut against the San Diego Padres in a 2-1 loss.
He was picked up by the Cincinnati Reds off waivers from San Francisco on June 25, 2022. On June 29, 2022, he hit his first major league pitch against the Chicago Cubs.
