Michael Papierski, a professional baseball catcher and first baseman for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball, was born on February 26, 1996.
He was an LSU Tigers baseball player in college. The Houston Astros selected Papierski in the ninth round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft. He made his MLB debut with the San Francisco Giants in May 2022.
Papierski attended Lemont High School while growing up in Lemont, Illinois. The Toronto Blue Jays selected him in the 16th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft; however, he decided not to sign with them in favor of enrolling at LSU.
At LSU, Papierski spent three seasons playing collegiate baseball. He backed up starter catcher Kade Scivicque for most of his rookie season. He participated in the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox as a collegiate summer baseball player in 2015.
The Houston Astros made their selection of Papierski in the ninth round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft. He was assigned to the Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York-Penn League after joining the team.
The Astros traded Papierski to the San Francisco Giants on May 14, 2022, in exchange for Mauricio Dubón. On May 21, 2022, Papierski was added to the Giants’ major league roster.
Later on the same day, he made his debut against the San Diego Padres in a 2-1 loss.
He was picked up by the Cincinnati Reds off waivers from San Francisco on June 25, 2022. On June 29, 2022, he hit his first major league pitch against the Chicago Cubs.
