The Colorado Rockies are an American professional baseball team based in Denver. The Rockies compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) West division.
The name “Rockies” was previously used by Denver’s first NHL franchise because of the city’s proximity to the Rocky Mountains, which can be seen in their logo (who are now known as the New Jersey Devils).
Due to a financial issue, Monus and Antonucci had to withdraw from the competition in 1992. The franchise was saved at the eleventh hour by trucking magnate Jerry McMorris, allowing the team to begin to play in 1993.
To expedite the construction of Coors Field, the Colorado Rockies and the NFL’s Denver Broncos played their first two seasons together at Mile High Stadium. Major League Baseball’s 1995 campaign saw its completion just in time for Opening Day.
They joined the National League’s West Division in 1993. In that year, the Rockies broke the all-time attendance record in Major League Baseball with a crowd of 4,483,350 people (a record that stands to this day).
Rocky Mountain Time Zone was established by the Rockies, MLB’s first Mountain Time Zone team since the Twins in 1903. They have made the MLB playoffs five times, each time as a wild card team in the National League.
They were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round twice, in 1995 and 2009.
