Australian politician Jane Furneaux Garrett was the Labor Party representative for Brunswick in the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 2010 to 2018.

She went to the Victorian Legislative Council as Vice President for Eastern Victoria and began her term in December 2011. Garrett was the shadow cabinet secretary prior to the 2014 state election

Garrett was appointed Minister for Emergency Services and Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming, and Liquor Regulation by the newly elected Andrews Labor government in 2014, following his re-election.

After a dispute over an enterprise bargaining agreement between the Country Fire Authority (CFA), the United Firefighters Union, and the Victorian government, Garrett resigned from the Andrews Ministry on 9 June 2016.

On August 15, 2016, a lady assaulted Garrett in Carlton. Garrett stated in a Facebook post in November 2016 that she had recently undergone a successful breast cancer operation and will be taking a four-month sabbatical from the House of Representatives for treatment and recovery.

Garrett declared on 27 September 2017 that she will not compete for the seat of Brunswick in the upcoming state election and instead seek preselection for the seat of Western Metropolitan Region in the Victorian Legislative Council.

Labor’s left faction supported Australian Services Union branch secretary Ingrid Stitt in her unsuccessful attempt for preselection. Nevertheless, she was ultimately chosen to lead the Labor ticket in Eastern Victoria Region.
