After winning the mixed doubles title at the US Open with Desirae Krawczyk, British tennis player Joe Salisbury made history by becoming the first player to win two doubles titles at a Grand Slam tournament.
At Flushing Meadows, the 29-year-old and Krawczyk secured a victory over Giuliana Olmos of Mexico and Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador in a match that was decided in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-2. The match took place in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
For Salisbury and Krawczyk, it was yet another major after they prevailed at the French Open earlier this year. Meanwhile, for the American, it was yet another major after he also added the title of Wimbledon with another Brit, Neal Skupski.
After coming back from being down a set to defeat Jamie Murray and Brazilian Bruno Soares in the deciding set in the men’s doubles final, Salisbury and his other American partner, Rajeev Ram, were crowned champions. The final score was 3-6, 6-2, and 6-2.
Salisbury, who has won four Grand Slam championships at this point in his career, could not have been more ecstatic to capture yet another significant triumph on the world’s largest stage.
