The Washington Commanders will hear a lot of stories about how their class for the 2022 NFL Draft is surprising people. Sam Howell of North Carolina, who was selected by Washington with pick number 144, was the only true surprise within the organization, and it was a nice one.
With that in mind, head coach Ron Rivera told us he really wanted to make sure the team’s first four picks were able to contribute right away, and he believes they did.
Jahan Dotson, a wide receiver, Phidarian Mathis, a defensive end, Brian Robinson Jr., a running back, and Percy Butler, a free safety, are the four players who will all make their NFL debuts on a club that will rely on them to see action quickly.
Sam Howell, Cole Turner, Chris Paul, and Christian Holmes are the other members of the class, and they will all need to earn their opportunities.
However, Rivera was more enthusiastic when discussing Howell and Turner, the team’s two fifth-round picks. The depth of the club at linebacker and how the new components fit in will be the main concerns moving ahead for the Washington Commanders.
The squad will work hard to determine this once Phase 2 of the offseason program begins the following week.
