Stefon Diggs knew it would be difficult to establish himself as a wide receiver when he signed with the Minnesota Vikings as a fifth-round pick out of Maryland.
The young man, however, had experience dealing with trying situations.
Aron Diggs, Diggs’ father, died of congestive heart failure in 2008. The family patriarch of the Diggs family left his oldest son a message a few months before he passed away.
What happened to Stefon Diggs dad?
Diggs lost his dad at a younger age. When Diggs was just five years old, his father, Aron, got him involved in the sport of football.
He informed his kid that when he was older, he would have shoeboxes full of college recruitment letters because he believed in him and he was a hard worker.
However, the older Diggs family member died when Stefon was only 14 years old. Diggs did everything he could to be there for his family after his father passed away, which was difficult for all of them.
He felt it was important for his younger brothers, Darez and Trevon, to see him as a role model.
According to what he said to USA Today, “Not having a father is a significant deal. You are in need of direction.
When my father passed away, I was left without a role model; I needed someone to show me how to be a man, how to mature into an adult, and most importantly, how to behave in the appropriate manner.
