Simmons was born and raised in Inglewood, California, where she attended both Susan Miller Dorsey High School and Crespi Carmelite High School. Crespi Carmelite High School was her final high school.
As a senior, Simmons was a standout on the football team for the Celts, earning him a ranking as a five-star recruit and the position of second-best offensive line prospect in the country.

redshirt senior season and started two of those contests. Simmons made a request to the NCAA to be eligible for the sixth year of competition, but the NCAA rejected his request.
On April 29, 2017, the Oakland Raiders made Simmons a member of their team by signing him. At the conclusion of training camp,
he was one of the players to be cut, but he was later re-signed to the practice squad. On September 30, 2018, Simmons played his first game in the National Football League (NFL) against the Arizona Cardinals. He took part in six contests and started three of them at right guard.
