The state of North Carolina is a familiar place for Van Roten. In his early career, he played for the Panthers, where current Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane formerly worked.
At 32 years old, Van Roten has come a long way to become an NFL star.
After going undrafted in 2012, he signed with the Green Bay Packers for the 2012–13 season. From there, he went to the Seattle Seahawks for the 2013–14 season, the Toronto Argonauts for the 2015–16 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2017 season, the Carolina Panthers for the 2018–19 season, and, most recently, the New York Jets (2020-2021).
According to reports, the Bills have shown interest in Van Roten in the past, as recently as they do now. Buffalo was reportedly interested in signing him in the past, according to Syracuse.com.

According to PFF, Van Roten had a 68.1 overall grade after allowing 37 pressures on 474 pass-blocking snaps in 2017. During his time with the Jets, Van Roten started 23 games.
He will enter his rookie season with the Bills competing for a backup role.
