Ryan William Bates is an offensive guard for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. Bates’s college football career was spent at Penn State, where he played for the Penn State Nittany Lions team.
Bates received his high school education in Warminster Township, Pennsylvania at Archbishop Wood Catholic High School.
On May 10, 2019, Bates became a member of the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent after signing with the team.
Bates was sent to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for linebacker Eli Harold on the 9th of August, 2019.
Bates made his first start of his professional career in Week 16 of the 2021 season at right guard. After that, he started every game at left guard for the balance of the season and throughout the playoffs.
On March 14, 2022, the Bills put in a tender offer for Bates to become their restricted free agent. The Chicago Bears tried to sign Bates on an offer sheet on March 24, 2022, but Buffalo matched their offer. On April 4, 2022, the Bills agreed to pay Bates $17 million over the course of a four-year contract.
