Skylar John Thompson, a quarterback with the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League, was born on June 4, 1997. In college, he played football for Kansas State.
Skylar Thompson started as quarterback, punter, and kicker for Fort Osage High School in Independence, Missouri, where he earned four letters.
As a senior, Thompson led the Fort Osage Indians to a 13-1 record and the state championship victory over Chaminade High School by completing 142 passes for 2129 yards with 26 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions.
Thompson threw for 455 yards and 7 touchdowns a Missouri state record in the state championship game alone.
After suffering a significant upper-body injury versus Texas Tech in 2020 that required “urgent surgery,” Thompson was declared out for the season. His sophomore season had been littered with minor ailments, including a broken rib and a twisted ankle.
Skylar Thompson was chosen by the Miami Dolphins on April 30, 2022, as the 247th overall choice in the 7th round of the NFL draft.
Thompson’s performance in the first two preseason games of 2022 was noteworthy, and ProFootballTalk noted that if he continued to perform well, the Dolphins might be forced to keep him on the active squad rather than run the risk of losing him to another team.
Following final cuts, Thompson was added to the 53-man roster after completing his preseason throws for 450 yards, 5 touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
