In the 2021 NFL Draft, the Dolphins selected him with the sixth overall pick after he played college football for Alabama. Waddle obtained a high school diploma from Episcopal High School in Bellaire, Texas.
In the senior U.S. Army All-American Game, he participated. He promised to play college football for Alabama University. In 2018, on National Signing Day, he made up his mind and chose Alabama over Texas, Texas A&M, Florida State, TCU, and Oregon.
In the sixth overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins selected Waddle, reuniting him with Tua Tagovailoa. On May 14, 2021, Waddle agreed to terms on a $27.1 million deal with the Dolphins.
On September 12, 2021, Waddle played in his first NFL game against Mac Jones and the New England Patriots, a former teammate from Alabama.
In the 17-16 victory over the New England Patriots, Waddle grabbed 4 of his 6 targets for 61 receiving yards and his first NFL receiving touchdown on a 3-yard Tua Tagovailoa pass.
He had his first substantial impact in Week 12 against the Carolina Panthers, finishing with 137 receiving yards as the Dolphins trounced them 33-10.
