He was brought up in Exeter, his hometown. He spent a year at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts, where he played football as a student, following his graduation from Exeter High School.
In high school, he was a tight end and defensive end. He caught 30 passes for 508 yards, two touchdowns, and seven sacks as a senior. Later, while attending Boston College, he participated in collegiate football for the Boston College Eagles. During his first year at Boston College in 2017, he redshirted.
