He was chosen for the offensive line first team All-Ohio team and was honored as the Northern Buckeye Conference Lineman of the Year during his senior year. Additionally, he received the Associated Press’s District IV and Great Lakes Region Lineman of the Year awards. Following high school, he participated in football for the University of Wisconsin-Badgers Madison squad. His freshman year at Wisconsin, he was a redshirt.
He earned his first letter in 2015 as a redshirt freshman by starting all 13 games, including the final five of the campaign. Six games at center and seven at left guard were his first starts. After scoring a 4-yard running score against Illinois, he was a front-runner for the “Piesman” Trophy, which is given annually to a college lineman who has displayed “decidedly un-linemanlike” behavior. He was chosen for the AP pre-season second team All American prior to the 2018 campaign. In the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins selected Deiter.
