Mosley suffered injuries in an automobile accident on August 4, 2022, in Lynwood, California. At the age of 83, he passed away from his wounds three days later at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

His daughter Ch-a Mosley, who confirmed the news on Facebook, said that he was accompanied by family as he peacefully transitioned.” A man this great could never be lamented by us. He would hate any tears shed in his honor.”

“The legacy he has left for all of us deserves to be honored. I loved you, Daddy. And you loved me. Despite my heavy heart, I am a strong person. I’ll take care of your nearly 60-year love, mom. She is in wonderful hands, and you raised me well. Rest Easy”.

Mosley portrayed the titular character for the entire eight-year run of the first Magnum P.I., which ran from 1980 to 1988. He shared the screen with Tom Selleck in 158 of the 162 episodes.

In the episode, Magnum routinely received rides throughout Hawai’i from Mosley’s character, who ran a helicopter firm and helped Magnum stay out of harm’s way. In a later episode of the revived series in 2019, the actor made a brief cameo as a different character named John Booky.

He also appeared on shows like Love Boat, Night Gallery, Sanford and Son, Kung Fu, Kojak, McCloud, The Rockford Files, The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams, Starsky and Hutch, You Take the Kids, Night Court, Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper, Walker, Texas Ranger, Rude Awakening, Las Vegas, and Fact, in addition to Magnum P.I.
