Slater participated in college football at UCLA, where he was named to the first team All-Pac-10. In the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft, the Patriots selected Slater to play for their club. Slater is widely regarded as one of the best gunners in NFL history.
He spent the majority of his career playing on special teams. In addition to his two selections to the first team All-Pro, he holds the record for the most special teams Pro Bowl selections with ten.
Slater was victorious in Super Bowl XLIX, Super Bowl LI, and Super Bowl LIII, bringing home the championship each time.
During the 2021 campaign, Slater once again distinguished himself as a special team standout. At the end of the year, he finished with 11 tackles in the regular season, and then in the Patriots’ Wild Card defeat to the Buffalo Bills, he added two more tackles to his total.
Slater was selected for the second team All-Pro for the third time in his career and made it to the Pro Bowl for the tenth time.
On March 14, 2022, Slater extended his contract with the Patriots by one year by signing a new agreement with the team.
