From 2015 through 2018, Desjarlais played CIS football for the Windsor Lancers.
Desjarlais was picked fourth overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the first round of the 2019 CFL Draft and signed with the team on May 11, 2019, despite NFL interest.
Following training camp, he was added to the active roster and played his first professional game on June 15, 2019, against the BC Lions.
Before earning his first start on August 15, 2019, also against the Lions, he served as a backup for the first eight games of the season. He participated in all 18 regular season games and started the final ten contests.
Additionally, in 2019 he started all three postseason contests, including the Blue Bombers’ 107th Grey Cup triumph over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
As a result of the cancellation of the 2020 CFL season, Desjarlais did not play in 2020. In a shorter 2021 season, he played in all 14 regular-season games.
Desjarlais was chosen as an All-Star for the West Division at the conclusion of the season. He started both postseason games as the Blue Bombers repeated as Grey Cup victors over the Tiger-Cats in the 108th Grey Cup.
Desjarlais was released in order to pursue a deal in the National Football League as a free agent.
