James Ferentz is a professional American football player who lines up at center for the National Football League’s New England Patriots. He is 136 kg and 1.88 m tall. At Iowa City High School in Iowa City, Iowa, he participated in football. He attended the University of Iowa after high school and played collegiate football there for the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2008 to 2012.
While attending the University, he received second-team All-Big Ten honors. The Houston Texans acquired him in May 2014. On December 30, 2014, he agreed to a reserve/futures deal with the Texans. His release by the Texans occurred in September 2015. He was picked up off waivers by the Denver Broncos in that month. He participated in 13 games during the regular season of 2015.
He was cut loose by the Broncos in May 2017. He joined the New England Patriots in May 2017. On September 2, 2017, the Patriots released him, and the following day he was added to the practice squad. On February 6, 2018, he agreed to a reserve/future deal with the Patriots. He re-signed with the Patriots in March 2022. On August 30, 2022, he was released, and the following day, he was added to the practice squad. On September 6, he was elevated to the active roster.
