Brown was traded to the New England Patriots on April 27, 2018, along with the 143rd selection in the 2018 NFL Draft, in exchange for the 95th selection in the draft (Tarvarius Moore).
The Patriots head coach, Bill Belichick, wanted to assemble one of the heaviest squads possible for a power-running offense, and the addition of Brown was a part of that effort.
