As a defensive tackle with the New England Patriots of the National Football League, Carl Davis participates in American football. He played high school football while attending Adlai Stevenson High School. The Detroit News, The Detroit Free Press, and The Macomb Daily all named him to their first-team all-state lists.
After being named to the second team as a junior, he was named to the first team as a senior. He attended the University of Iowa, where he participated in collegiate football for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He redshirted in 2010 while a true freshman at the University of Iowa. He participated in six games as a redshirt freshman in 2011 and made two tackles. He participated in 11 games as a sophomore, recording eight tackles.
As a junior in 2013, Davis made his debut as the starter and went on to start all 13 games. In the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens selected him. He signed a four-year, $2.95 million contract with the Ravens in May 2015, which also included a signing bonus of $625,084. In August 2019, Davis was released by the Browns.
The Indianapolis Colts acquired his services in October 2019. In the same month that the Jacksonville Jaguars signed him after his release in November 2019, he was released. He was taken off the Jaguars practice squad in October 2020 and signed by the New England Patriots. He re-signed with the Patriots in April 2022 after signing a contract extension with them in March 2021.
