Daniel Ekuale is a defensive tackle who plays for the New England Patriots of the National Football League.
Ekuale was born in Pago Pago, American Samoa, where he also spent his childhood and attended Nuuuli Vocational Technical High School during his teenage years. Most recruiting sources ranked him as the top college prospect for his class in American Samoa.
He chose to play college football at Washington State University rather than accept offers from Oregon, Oregon State, and Washington, and he did so despite the fact that he had previously committed to playing for Hawaii.
After spending his true freshman year on the Cougars’ redshirt roster, Ekuale played for Washington State University for a total of five seasons. During his redshirt junior season, he began playing for the Cougars as a starter at nose tackle.
During that season, he recorded a career-high 23 tackles, including 2.5 for losses, and a sack. Ekuale was on the watch list for the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year as he entered his redshirt senior season at Washington State University.
He started 12 of the school’s 13 games and recorded 17 tackles, including 3.5 for a loss, and one sack. His final collegiate stats included 71 total tackles (14 for losses), three sacks, and two forced fumbles. He also had two fumble recoveries.
