Outside linebacker Ronnie Perkins signed with the New England Patriots on Tuesday, the same day that the team’s newest players reported to Gillette Stadium for training.
The native of Oklahoma, who was taken in the third round with the 96th overall pick, revealed on Twitter that he had agreed to terms with the team.
According to the breakdown provided by Miguel Benzan of PatsCap, the four-year rookie contract begins with a base salary of $660,000 and a cap charge of $870,154 for Perkins. Additionally, Perkins will earn a signing bonus in the amount of $840,616.
Perkins, who is now 21 years old, was a member of the Sooners’ sophomore and junior teams that were named to the second team of All-Big 12 Performers.
His time in Norman was comprised of a total of 33 games, of which he started 25 of them. The former defensive end recorded a total of 99 tackles over that time period, including 32 tackles for loss, in addition to 16.5 sacks and one forced fumble.
The only pick that New England has made that has not yet been signed is defensive tackle Christian Barmore, who was selected 38th overall after coming out of Alabama in the second round.
