Wade attended Ohio State for his entire four-year undergraduate career before the Baltimore Ravens selected him in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, where he will play.
He was the No. 2 cornerback in the 2017 recruiting class and a former five-star prospect, but he missed his freshman season due to an abdominal ailment sustained during spring practices.
Wade was able to return to the field the next season, though, and over the following three years he developed into a crucial part of the Buckeyes’ team.
He played in 35 games with 18 starts between 2018 and 2020 and had six interceptions, three forced fumbles, and was awarded Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year as a redshirt junior.
One of his interceptions was recovered for a score. During his 2020 junior redshirt season, he was also elected as the team’s captain.
In contrast, his relatively brief tenure in the NFL has been less fruitful. Wade has played in just three games since being traded from the Ravens to the Patriots before the 2021 regular season.
Wade’s contract did not entirely transfer from Baltimore to New England when he was traded to the Patriots in August of last year. From the perspective of his new team, there are no guarantees left on his contract because his $317,564 signing bonus remains with the Ravens.
Wade’s $825,000 pay is insufficient to qualify for Top-51 designation, therefore it does not now count against the Patriots’ salary limit; it will only do so if he makes the 53-man roster in September.
