Shortly after the end of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Patriots signed cornerback Devin Hafford as an undrafted free agent.
The New England Patriots have added a cornerback to their roster ahead of next Tuesday’s first round of roster cuts.
A representative for cornerback Devin Hafford says he has re-signed with the Patriots despite going undrafted. Originally, New England signed the Tarleton State graduate after the 2022 NFL Draft. Despite being waived in May, he appears to be making his way back to Foxboro.
How Good Is Devin Hafford?
As a product of an FCS school, Hafford might not have gotten as much draft-worthy attention as he deserved. However, he has many redeeming qualities in his play. Hafford spent six years with the Texans and played in 56 games during that time. At 6 feet tall and 195 pounds, he has the frame and weight to succeed at the position, and he moves really quickly.
At his professional tryout, he ran a 10-yard split of 1.52 seconds. Hafford scored one touchdown as a senior in 2021 and recorded fifty tackles, six interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. After the season, he received recognition as the WAC’s best defensive player.
The timing of Hafford’s reunion with the Pats is a little questionable because the team ought to be focusing on trimming roster fat right now rather than adding players. Despite the enormous odds against him, Hafford’s signing may signal the end of a Patriots career for another player in his position group.
