Brad Hawkins, a rookie safety, would be signing with the New England Patriots, according to Pro Football Focus, who said that clubs were getting established at training camps across the NFL landscape. The former Michigan Wolverine worked out with the Pats on Monday.
Originally an undrafted free agent, the 24-year-old signed with the Falcons in May. He played in 56 games and had 31 starts for the Wolverines while a student at Michigan.
With 60 total tackles and two forced fumbles, the 6-1, 221-pound safety enjoyed his most successful collegiate season in 2021. Hawkins had 178 total tackles (seven for a loss), eight passes defended, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery by the end of his career in Ann Arbor. In 2021, he was chosen for the third team of the Big Ten, and his colleagues elected him to be an alternate captain.
After being rejected from invitations to the Senior Bowl and the NFL Scouting Combine, the Camden, New Jersey native received little pre-draft exposure.
In contrast, he recorded a 37-inch vertical leap and a 4.57-second 40-yard sprint time at Michigan during his pro-day appearance in March.
In July, the Falcons released Hawkins in response to the acquisition of defensive tackle Eddie Goldman.
