According to Pro Football Focus, Brad Hawkins, a rookie safety, has signed with the New England Patriots. On Monday, the Patriots invited the former Michigan Wolverine to work out with them.
Originally an undrafted free agent, the 24-year-old signed with the Falcons in May. He played in 56 games and had 31 starts for the Wolverines while a student at Michigan.
The 6-1, 221-pound safety enjoyed his best season as a college senior, recording 60 tackles and forcing two fumbles.
Hawkins had 178 total tackles (seven for a loss), eight passes defended, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery by the end of his career in Ann Arbor.
In 2021, he was chosen for the third team of the Big Ten, and his colleagues elected him to be an alternate captain.
The Camden, New Jersey native didn’t get much notice before the draft because he wasn’t invited to the Senior Bowl or the NFL Scouting Combine.
But on Michigan’s pro day in March, he recorded a 37-inch vertical and ran the 40-yard sprint in 4.57 seconds.
In July, the Falcons released Hawkins in response to the acquisition of defensive tackle Eddie Goldman.
