Devin McCourty is a safety for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football while attending Rutgers University and was picked up by the Patriots in the first round of the NFL Draft in 2010.
During his time with the Patriots, McCourty played in two Pro Bowls and was part of three championship teams that won the Super Bowl. He has missed a total of only five games. Additionally, McCourty has started more postseason games than any other defensive player.
McCourty and his twin brother, Jason McCourty, both graduated from Saint Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey. He was selected for all-league play in each of his final two seasons, during which he played cornerback and free safety. As a senior, he recorded 50 tackles and three interceptions.
McCourty was rated as a two-star prospect by Rivals.com, but Rutgers was the only school to give him a scholarship.
McCourty received his education at Rutgers University and began his football career with the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University in the year 2005. After sitting out his first year as a member of the team, McCourty played in all 13 games as a freshman in 2006 and finished with 38 tackles, two interceptions, and a redshirt.
Both Devin McCourty and his twin brother Jason McCourty started the 2007 season at cornerback for their respective teams. Devin led the team in tackles with 63, had two interceptions, one forced fumble, and three blocked kicks on special teams.
Jason led the team in forced fumbles with one. During each of his first two seasons with the team, the Big East Conference recognized him as an academic all-star.
