Brenden Schooler is a safety and special teamer for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. In 2022, the Patriots decided to take a chance on him and sign him as an undrafted free agent.
Schooler participated in collegiate football at both Oregon and Texas, where he held the position of safety and also played wide receiver and other offensive positions.
Schooler was a member of the Oregon football team from 2016 through 2019, during which time he played the positions of safety and wide receiver. He transferred to Arizona in 2020 for a short period of time, but he left after the 2020 Pac-12 football season was canceled due to the COVID–19 pandemic. He then transferred to Texas, where he played for the Longhorns in both 2020 and 2021.
Schooler had a time of 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard dash and 6.71 seconds in the three-cone drill when he was timed in Texas during his pro day. After not being selected in the draught, Schooler was offered and accepted a three-year deal with the Patriots in May 2022.
This deal, which included a signing bonus of $15,000, is typical for undrafted first-year players. Schooler was one of two undrafted first-year players that made the Patriots roster in 2022, bringing the total number of seasons in which the Patriots have had undrafted free agents make the team to 19.
