The second player selected by the Jets in the first round has already formally signed his rookie contract.
The New York Jets moved up nine spots in the draft to choose offensive tackle Alijah Vera-Tucker. On Wednesday, the Jets and Vera-Tucker came to an agreement on a contract that is worth $15.85 million over four years.
In addition to being completely guaranteed, the contract also includes a signing bonus of $8.9 million and a fifth-year option.
The Jets thought that Vera-Tucker was the top guard in this year’s selection and realized that in order to obtain him, they would probably have to make a trade-up.
In order to make the deal, Joe Douglas had to give up the Jets’ 23rd overall pick as well as both of their third-round selections.
Alongside Mekhi Becton, who was selected in the first round of the 2020 draft, Vera-Tucker will anchor the left side of the Jets’ offensive line.
Both are skilled blockers who will be invaluable in the Jets’ wide-zone scheme this year, protecting Zach Wilson’s blindside and the team’s running backs.
