Defensive end Jermaine Johnson, who was the No. 26 overall choice in the NFL Draft, was signed by the New York Jets on Monday to a fully guaranteed four-year, $13.1 million rookie contract.
Johnson’s contract with the Jets includes a conventional fifth-year option and a $6.7 million signing bonus.
Johnson, who is anticipated to contribute right away as a pass rusher, was acquired by New York by making a trade back into the first round.
Last season, the former Florida State standout led the ACC in tackles for loss (18 1/2) and sacks (12), earning him the title of defensive player of the year.
Johnson, who is from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, started his undergraduate career there. He was one of the athletes profiled in the Netflix documentary series “Last Chance U.”
He transferred to Georgia, where he played for the Bulldogs for two seasons before moving on to Florida State, where he played his way into the first round of the draft.
