With the New York Jets of the National Football League, Carl Lawson participates in American football as a defensive end. Having a height of 1.88 m, he weighs 120 kg. Playing football there while attending Milton High School. As a junior, he made 87 tackles and recorded 15 sacks; as a senior, he made 78 tackles and recorded 27 sacks.
He was regarded as one of the best recruits in his class and was a five-star recruit in general. For the Auburn University Tigers football team, he participated in collegiate football. He recorded 20 tackles and four sacks in 2013 as a true freshman. He only participated in seven games during his junior season in 2015 due to injuries, but he still managed to accumulate 17 tackles and one sack.
In the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals selected Lawson. He participated in all 16 games, made one start, and finished with 16 tackles and 8.5 sacks. He qualified for the PFWA All-Rookie Team thanks to his 8.5 sacks, which put him first among rookies and second on the team behind Geno Atkins’ 9.0.
He took part in eight games in 2018. In November 2018, he received a medical reserve designation. He committed to the New York Jets in March 2021, agreeing to a three-year, $45 million deal. During a joint practice with the Green Bay Packers in August 2021, Lawson collapsed with what appeared to be a left leg injury, ending his 2021 NFL season.
