Adams played cover safety at Illinois for five seasons, developing his position with each passing year. Even though New York has a lot of depth at the position, Adams may have to compete all summer long for a slot.
Numerous NFL players look up to legendary players in their position. Adams attributes much of his competitive drive and work ethic to the influence of one of the game’s all-time greats. Kobe Bryant is listed as Adams’ favorite athlete in his University of Illinois resume because of “his mindset and his work ethic.”
Adams managed a rigorous academic load while playing football for Illinois. In December 2020, Adams received a political science bachelor’s degree. He earned a second bachelor’s degree in communications during the COVID year.
As a true freshman at Illinois, Adams participated in five games and made a quick name for himself. Adams became the first true freshman cornerback to start a season opener since former Pro Bowler Vontae Davis in 2006 when he started at cornerback for the Fighting Illini against Eastern Illinois.
Adams recorded six interceptions and eleven pass deflections while playing wide receiver for Illinois. He was recruited by some to play the position at the collegiate level. He became the first Illini since Davis and Kevin Mitchell in 2007 to have interceptions in back-to-back Big Ten contests in 2019.
