He was raised in Santa Cruz, California, in the USA. He was a wide receiver for the school’s football team as a student at Santa Cruz High School.
After graduating from high school, he attended the University of California, where he played college football for the California Golden Bears squad and also run track. He made 56 tackles as a redshirt junior, breaking up five passes and securing four interceptions. He also returned 24 kickoffs for 629 yards and a touchdown.
He was an honorable mention from the league coaches and was voted first team All-Pac-12 Conference by the Associated Press, Athlon Sports, and Pro Football Focus. As a senior in track and field, he was also nominated a finalist for the Burlsworth Trophy. Davis was selected for the second team All-American and won the Pac-12 110 meter hurdle championship.
In the 60-meter hurdles, he was also awarded an NCAA Indoor All-American. In the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected him with the 68th overall pick. On December 12, 2020, he was placed on injured reserve. Activated on October 2, 2021, after being placed back on injured reserve in September 2021.
