Lamarcus Joyner plays as a safety in American football for the New York Jets. He played college football at Florida State and was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft after being named USA Today’s Defensive High School Player of the Year in 2009.
Joyner, a Miami, Florida native, first attended Southwest Miami High School, where he participated in three seasons of varsity football as a wide receiver, linebacker, defensive back, and kick returner.
He made more than 100 tackles as a sophomore and contributed more than 1,000 yards on offense. He made 112 tackles, four sacks, and an interception in his junior season.
He subsequently made the choice to move to St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a private institution with a storied football program and was led by coach George Smith.
St. Thomas Aquinas went unbeaten all season, extending a victory streak that started in 2007 to 37 wins, before falling 28-20 to Manatee High School in a Class 5A state quarterfinal at Hawkins Stadium in Bradenton, Florida.
