Manish Mehta of the Daily News reports that Braden Mann has accepted the conditions of his rookie contract.
The four-year contract has a value of $3.47 million. The 2020 cap charge for Mann is $654,000.
Out of Texas A&M, Mann was selected in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He was selected first overall in the draft out of two punters.
While attending Texas A&M, Mann was one of the top punters in the country. He received the Ray Guy Award in 2018 for being the best punter in college football.
Along with receiving that honor, Mann was also named to the First Team All-SEC, a unanimous All-American, and the SEC Special Teams Player of the Year. In 2019, Mann was again named to the First Team All-SEC.
In college, Mann punted 47.1 yards on average. 46 of Mann’s 109 punts were within the 20-yard line, and 13 of them resulted in touchbacks. In his junior year, he had the longest punt of 82 yards.
By not renewing Lachlan Edwards’ contract, New York created a space for Mann to take over as their starting punter.
Since there isn’t another punter on the Jets’ active roster, Mann will punt for them against the Bills in their season opener, barring a disastrous training camp.
