Calais Malik Campbell is a defensive end for the Baltimore Ravens, who compete in American football and are members of the National Football League. After participating in collegiate football at the University of Miami, he was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round of the NFL Draft in the year 2008.
Campbell attended South High School, located in Denver, Colorado, where he participated in football. He was ranked as the tenth-best strongside defensive end by Rivals.com and the seventh-best defensive end by Scout.com.
He is widely considered one of the greatest defensive end prospects in the country. During his time at South High School, he racked up 57 total sacks, which is still a state record.
Campbell was a standout on the school’s basketball team in addition to his success on the football field. As a junior, he was named to the All-State basketball team after compiling the following statistics: 22.7 points per game, 16.0 rebounds per game, and 3.3 blocks per game.
Campbell was also active in track and field at South, where he qualified for the state tournament in the discus and shot throw in the year 2003.
His personal bests in the track and field events are as follows: 21 feet (6.4 meters) in the long jump, 48 feet (15 meters) in the shot throw, 135 feet (41 meters) in the discus, and 44 feet and 2 inches (13.46 meters) in the triple leap.
The University of Miami was Campbell’s top choice, beating out other schools such as Colorado State, Nebraska, Louisiana State, Michigan, Oklahoma, and San Diego State.
