Odafe Jayson Oweh formerly known as Jayson Oweh plays outside linebacker for the National Football League’s Baltimore Ravens. He was selected by the Ravens in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft after playing collegiate football for Penn State.
Oweh, who is of Nigerian origin, was born on December 15, 1998, in Hackensack, New Jersey, and she went to Blair Academy in Blairstown.
He received a roster spot for 2018 Under Armour All-America Game. Oweh pledged to play college football for Penn State.
The Baltimore Ravens acquired Oweh in a trade that sent Orlando Brown Jr. to the Kansas City Chiefs, and they chose him in the first round (31st overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Soon after the draft, Oweh said that he would no longer use his middle name, Jayson, which he had used in college to prevent confusion over pronouncing his first name. Instead, he would use his first name, Odafe.
On June 10, 2021, he agreed to a $12.6 million, four-year rookie contract. In his second professional game against Clyde Edwards-Helaire and the Kansas City Chiefs, Oweh forced his first turnover and recovered it late in the fourth quarter. A 36-35 victory was secured thanks to the turnover.
His performance, which included three tackles, a tackle for loss, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, earned him the title of defensive player of the week. He also hit Patrick Mahomes with a quarterback hit, which caused Tavon Young, a teammate, to intercept the pass.
Meet Tania Kachikwu and Henry Oweh
Odafe Oweh was born to his father Henry Oweh and his father Tania Kachikwu on December 15, 1998.
Henry, Odafe’s father, and Tania, his mother, were both raised in Nigeria. Tania moved there from London when she was a preteen, but Henry was born and reared there.
They attended school together in Nigeria, attended college in London, where they later married, and then moved to New Jersey in the late 1990s. Every name has a backstory, but in Nigerian culture, the stories are much more profound.
