A high school football player from New Jersey passes away from what appears to be a traumatic brain injury.
According to the mayor of Linden, Xavier McClain, a student at Linden High School, passed away two weeks after suffering the injuries during a game.

On Wednesday, a high school football player from New Jersey passed away from what seemed to be a catastrophic brain injury.

According to a Facebook post by Linden (New Jersey) Mayor Derek Armstead, sophomore Xavier McClain of Linden High School passed away two weeks after suffering a head injury on September 9 during a varsity game versus Woodbridge (New Jersey).

Together, we hoped for a different result and prayed for a miracle, Armstead wrote on Wednesday.

“It should not be the case that children outlast their parents. I kindly requested that you keep the family in your prayers moving forward.”

Armstead urged his community to pray for McClain, who was at the moment battling for his life, in a message on social media on Saturday.

According to sources, the head injury occurred during a kickoff to start the second half. A video of the game shows an ambulance on the field with play stopped many minutes after the play. Play ultimately began again. Linden (1-2) triumphed 31-0.

McClain’s tragedy has tragically not been the only one to affect a high school football squad this year. The accident happened the day after a nearby high school football player passed away. Rahway senior Ali Muhamad was discovered to have died in his sleep on Sept. 8, according to NJ.com.

A senior at The Weber School in Sandy Springs, Ga. died Wednesday after suffering a medical emergency during a flag football practice, reported CBS46. In early September, a student at Dalhart High School in Texas died after suffering a head injury during a JV game.
