Zach Ertz is an American football tight end for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft and later won Super Bowl LII with the team over the New England Patriots.
Ertz was the eldest of four children and was the first of his family to be born in Orange, California. Between the years 1981 and 1984, his father was a member of the Lehigh University football team.
In high school, Ertz attended Monte Vista High School in Danville, California, where he participated in both football and basketball.
He was selected to the first team of the All-East Bay Athletic League after finishing his senior year on the football team with 56 receptions, 756 receiving yards, and 14 receiving touchdowns. His performance earned him a spot on the team.
Ertz received his education at Stanford University, and from 2009 through 2012, he was a member of the football team known as the Cardinal. During the 2009 campaign, he wore a red shirt.
He participated in 13 games throughout the 2010 season and finished with 16 receptions, 190 yards, and five touchdowns.
In the game that year against Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl, he recorded two receptions, one of which resulted in a score.
