Ernest Jones (born November 22, 1999) is an NFL linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams. He went to South Carolina for college football.
Jones attended Ware County High School in Waycross, Georgia. He had 112 tackles, six for loss, two sacks, and three forced fumbles as a senior and made the Class AAAAA first team. Jones chose South Carolina over Georgia Tech and Duke.
Jones made 16 tackles and forced a fumble as a freshman. In his second season, he led South Carolina with 97 tackles. Jones had an appendectomy and missed much of preseason training. As a junior, he led the team with 86 tackles, five for loss. After the season, Jones announced he would forego his senior year and join the 2021 NFL draft.
The Los Angeles Rams drafted Jones 103rd overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Jones joined the Rams on July 22, 2021.
in 2021 as a backup inside linebacker behind Kenny Young and Troy Reeder. He started after the Rams traded Young before Week 8. Jones intercepted Kyler Murray’s pass in a 30-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
Posted on injured reserve on December 28 after a high ankle sprain in Week 16. Activated for the NFC Championship game on January 29, 2022. With 61 tackles and two interceptions in 15 games (7 starts), he concluded the season with one sack.
