As one of the quarterbacks for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League, Richard Thomas McSorley III, also known as Trace McSorley, is a professional football player. At 1.83 m tall and 92 kilograms, he is also 1.83 m wide. Football was his sport while he was a student at Briar Woods High School. He steered the group to a 13-2 record and a state championship in his rookie season.
He guided the group to a 15-0 record and its third straight state win two seasons later, during his junior year. He received a First-team All-State honor from Virginia Preps and the Virginia Coaches Association. He received honors for being a first-team quarterback for the All-Dulles District, offensive player of the year for the district, and second-team quarterback for the region as a junior
He enrolled at Pennsylvania State University after graduating from high school and played college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions from 2014 to 2018. As a genuine freshman, he redshirted. He participated in six games as a redshirt freshmen. The Baltimore Ravens selected McSorley with the 197th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
He was released by the Ravens in August 2021 and immediately re-signed to the practice squad the following day. He was acquired by the Arizona Cardinals in November 2021. He was released by the Cardinals on August 30, 2022, and the following day he was added to the practice squad. He received a promotion to the active roster on September 7, 2022.
