Bishop McNamara High School was where he went to school and played football in high school. He attended Central Michigan University after graduating from high school, where he played college football for the Central Michigan Chippewas.
During his four seasons with the Central Michigan Chippewas, he accumulated 2,539 yards and 28 touchdowns on 473 rushes, as well as 909 yards and four more on 98 receptions. As an undrafted free agent in April 2020, Ward was signed by the Arizona Cardinals.
