As a safety with the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League, Charles Washington plays football professionally. At 1.78 m tall and 87 kilograms, he is also 1.78 m wide. He was a student at Crespi Carmelite High School and participated in football there. During his senior season in 2010, he had 57 solo tackles, 29 tackle assists, 5 interceptions, 7 rushes for 123 running yards, and 4 touchdowns, earning him defensive MVP of the league honors.
He attended Fresno State University, where from 2012 to 2015 he competed in collegiate football for the Fresno State Bulldogs. His true freshman year of 2011 was spent as a redshirt. He participated in 12 games in 2012 and made 8 solo tackles, 5 tackle assists, 2 pass breakups, and 1 recovered fumble.
During his time in college, he participated in 50 games, starting 38 of them, amassing 202 tackles and 3 interceptions. In January 2016, he took part in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. At Fresno State, he majored in criminology and prisons. Washington signed with the Detroit Lions in May 2016 as an undrafted free agent after being undrafted. He was released by the Lions in August of this year.
He was picked up off waivers by the Arizona Cardinals in September 2019. Washington re-signed with the Cardinals on a one-year deal in March 2021. He had a hamstring injury on September 29, 2021, and was put on injured reserve until being activated on December 18. He renewed his contract with the Cardinals on May 2, 2022.
