Lorenzo Carter, an outside linebacker, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Falcons. For the 2022 season, the Falcons pass rush will need significant improvement.

It should come as no surprise that the position of outside linebacker was a significant one that required attention throughout the summer.

Carter joins the Falcons from the Giants, where he played for the previous four seasons. Carter, who played college football for four years at the University of Georgia, was picked by the New York Giants in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Carter started 14 games in his first two years in New York and recorded 8.5 sacks, 13 tackles for a loss, and 23 quarterback hits.

In Week 5 of the 2020 season, he ruptured his Achilles tendon just as he was getting ready to embark on a promising and fruitful third season in the league. He sustained an injury and spent the rest of the season on the Giants’ injured list.

In 2021, after recovering from an injury, Carter recorded five sacks, an interception, and two forced fumbles for the season.

At the end of last season, Carter appeared to be getting back into a groove that would serve him well. In the final four games of the season, Carter recorded six of his eight quarterback hits and five of his six tackles for loss.

Lorenzo Carter makes an average of $3.5 million a year. Carter will have a cap hit of $2,500,000 and a dead cap value of $2,000,000 in 2022 between his $1,500,000 regular salary and $2,000,000 signing bonus.
